The new chapter of The Blue Study Live, Volume II, will kick off with a highly symbolic jazz guitar duo — featuring Hong Kong's cross-era representative jazz guitarists Eugene Pao and Alan Kwan, engaging in a musical dialogue across generations through their instruments. This is not only a musical encounter about experience and innovation, heritage and exploration, but also the perfect beginning of a new chapter of The Blue Study Live!
For decades, Eugene Pao has been considered the representative figure of Hong Kong jazz guitar, active on both local and international stages, having collaborated with world-class musicians such as Jack DeJohnette, Michael Brecker, and John Patitucci. His playing combines lyricism and adventurous spirit, shaping Hong Kong's unique jazz sound with a deep improvisational language and a unique aesthetic of tone colour, continuously promoting the development of local jazz.
Alan Kwan, on the other hand, is one of the most representative jazz guitarists of the new generation. He furthered his studies in the US at the University of North Texas and the City University of New York, and his works blend delicate structures with an open improvisational spirit, presenting a mature and internationalised musical language. His solo album, Petrichor, and his production work on Between Now and Never (which won the Golden Melody Award for 'Best Album Producer') have been widely acclaimed by the music industry and critics, fully demonstrating his profound abilities as both a performer and a producer.
In this jazz guitar duo, there is no framework of a rhythm section, only the listening, responding, and improvisational dialogue between the two guitars. When experience meets new voices, and when heritage extends to exploration, The Blue Study Live, Volume II, unfolds!
